Try this exercise. A friend showed it to me a long time ago. I don't know if anyone else has ever heard of this, but he called it the 'Spider'.

Use alternate picking and start off slow. Then speed it up, and be sure to play it all over the neck, not just at the 5th fret.

That should keep your fingers limber and increase coordination. Peace.
