Absolutely. I too started about a year ago (10/25/19). I too bought a Taylor...love it...

In February, I bought 5 different strings and decided part of the learning process was going to be changing my strings once per month, learn to record them after playing on them for a week and then after 5-6 months, I could listen back and see which I liked. The first couple times I rewatched the video (see link below). I don't use power winders, it is no big deal.

I probably spent $40-45 with a range of strings.

The strings all sounded and felt different. But after a week, I often got used to whatever I was playing. Mostly what I learned was how to change strings! and how to record. It was also a cool way to see progress in my learning.

Bottom line -- you can totally change strings yourself. Here is the link on the Taylor site.

Good luck!
