You also cant go far wrong with the daddy of them all..Larry Graham, the man who invented funk bass. This is the man from whom Mark King, Victor Wooten, Bootsy etc copped many of their licks. Recommended listening - Stand and There's a riot goin on by Sly & the family Stone and any of the earlier Graham Central Station albums. top tracks -Release yourself, The jam and Feel the need. Listen and learn.

For a good well-priced instructional vid I recommend Louis Johnson on 'Star Licks'. Ex Brothers Johnson, LJ's done whole load of session work with top names e.g Stanley Clarke. A real thunderthumbs if there ever was.
