Somebody please explain to me the concept of left-hand muting, like in Nirvana's "Smells like Teen Spirit." I can't seem to get that sound right, no matter how long I practice.

yo, it ain't that hard just hold the form of that 5 chord but don't put your fingers down just rest them on the strings to mute the sound.

What you've got to do is REST LIGHTLY your finger tips and the string, don't apply any pressure so that the strings are touching the fretboard, but touch the strings light, but firmly so that the notes are deadened....Hope that helps and doesn't just confuss you further...
Don't worry too much about me, ignore me long enough and I'll go away.
