I have a question on the Ultimate Scale Finder. I was looking at the minor pentatonic and blues scales and neither scale is shows a flatted 3rd or 7th - though the blues scale shows a flatted 5th.

Is that correct? I don't know much theory but I'm pretty sure the minor pentatonic is 1 / 3b / 4 / 5 / 7b

I just checked the scale finder & looked at pattern 1 of each scale in C.

The major pentatonic shows a major 3rd.

Edit: the system apparently will not let me post more than one pic at a time.

Yes, that's right. Did you see these mistakes somewhere else? Or on some other key or pattern?

The pentatonic minor shows a minor 3rd.

The blues scale (which is the pentatonic minor and an added flat 5th) also shows a minor 3rd.

In that last view of the blues scale you posted, you can see the visual difference in what I'm talking about - the 5th shows up as (5b), but the 3rd does not show the flat symbol - it just shows up as (3) and not (3b).

I agree that the position of the flatted 3rd is otherwise correct - just does not show that note as being flat in the scale.

Oh, I see what you mean! That's just how the scale finder is set up. It doesn't show the flat symbol on any other scale degree. It only shows the flat 5th because there is also a non-flat 5th.

If you select a major scale, then the assumption is that the 3rd is major. Conversely, if you select a minor scale, then the assumption is that the 3rd is minor. And since it's in the right fretboard location to create the right interval sound, you can see the pattern is correct.

Hope that helps!

Yes, it has audio. Make sure the volume slider is up (lower right corner) & click the play button.

Hope that helps!
