Joining a web site is a pain, but it is fun once you have finished all the registration.

We need to encourage more people to join the forum, so I think we should do a drawing for the first 1000 forum members. I can spend up to 300 bucks. You all will be entered automatically, so what do you think most guitarists would want to win?

I did a 7 string guitar on Guitar War, and that seemed to work pretty well. I am thinking maybe four monthly contests for an effects pedal one per month...or maybe one contest for one 7 string for the first 1000 members.

What do you think?

I think an effects pedal per month would be a great prize, and means that more of us have a chance of winning something, rather than one big prize to one person.

Take it eazy

that's a good idea jon, i agree that the effects are a better idea than the 7-stringer. more people can get the effects than just one with like 300 you can get like 5 pedals(depends on the one you get) or 2 zooms. that's a very good idea and i bet you dollars to donuts that'll draw some peeps in here.

I agree with schmange. A package with a variety of stuff would be great. or something like a gift certificate for Musician's Friend. Something along those lines.

Sounds great. Maybe put more variety into the giveaways though. Years worth of strings, 500 picks, Guitar Accessory package (winder, tuner, cleaner etc) CD packages, software. Maybe even get something going with a guitar magazine offering a free subscription or back issues. You might find that some companies would be willing to help out with giveaways just for the advertising exposure they'd get on GuitarTricks.
Bigger prizes like guitars or amps could be saved for special occasions like christmas.

Good idea...I agree with the effects - while I wouldn't mind a seven stringer, effects would be much more useful on stage, wouldn't it?....
It's just a thought, but the way I'm understanding it so far is you're putting up the 300 outta your own pocket...fair enough, but if and when this catches more people to the site, why not look at sponsership of some kind...I'm sure either a few more banners or even a company prepared to donate prizes, (guitars, effects, picks, strings, perhaps even the occasional amp or two)...that'd at least have a prize, if not, raise you the capital to buy the stuff without (complete) personal funding....
Good idea though...think most people'll be interested...just my two pence worth
Don't worry too much about me, ignore me long enough and I'll go away.

Alright, I'm convinced. Does anybody want to recommend some pedals?

Glad to see you went through with it....Just one question....excess of $10...does that mean you'll pay $10 regardless, and then anything else is paid by the individual, or that the winner will have to pay the total cost if its over $10?...Just wondering....Also, are all current memebers automatically entered, or do we have to do stuff?...Hopefully this idea'll bring in the people you wanted...

If the winner was from UK and shipping to UK were $25, then winner would need to pay the extra $15.

Hey I've been watching the counter for how many people have registered and you can almost sit down and watch the darn thing move! I think the give-a-way is really working. Good jog there Jon.
