Hi everyone. I made my way through the fundamentals but i'm still focusing on scales.[br]I know the formula to create major scales but I still find a bit confusing to figure out how many octaves there are on the guitar fretboard for a given scale (let's say from fret 1 to 12).[br]I can play 2 octaves for a specific pattern, but then i get confused knowing that i can play the same notes in a different position on the neck...a problem I don't have when I do this on the keyboard for example. [br][br]Is there any specific lesson about it I maybe missed out ?[br]Or should I just memorize the different scale patterns? So far I've been working them out by learning the position of the notes on the neck, instead of learning specific patterns.[br][br]Thanks in advance!

Hey, there! Congrats on making it through the fundamentals courses! Those courses are very much for beginners. As a result they only go far enough into scales & patterns to introduce the idea & get you playing basic scale patterns.

[br][/quote][p]Great observation! it can be confusing because you can play the same note in more than one place on the guitar. These tutorials cover the 3 basic shapes major & minor scales can form.

But keep in mind that those are more of an intermediate skill. It might be more beneficial for you to start to work on one of the style courses (blues, country or rock) & learn some songs. That way you will also start to build your skill ina way that is integrated with other aspects of music & apply them toward learning a repertoire of music to play.

After you learn those 3 types of patterns, you've got the basic idea of what scale patterns are possible.
