I’m at the end of guitar fundamentals 1, the part about strumming and I’m wondering what’s the best method for strumming up the strings. Should I tilt the pick? The way Lisa shows it, it looks like she is keeping the pick pretty much the same as a down strum, but for me this doesn’t seem to work to well. Another thing is, the pick keeps tilting to the side, I’m using a .73 size pick if that makes any difference.

Hey Wolfman

We are at the same point. I would suggest a thinner pick to start with. I was using a .73 but moved to a .38 after reading a number of previous posts (cheers ManXcat). It has helped a lot.

The angle of up stroke should, in my opinion, be the reverse of your down stroke. I have found that this works for me. Everybody will hold their pick differently, I have tried to copy others with no joy. Relentless practice, to my poor wife's annoyance, helped me find my own angle.

Tip

Down angle Up angle / (not to that degree though)

Tip

Hope that makes sense?

Paul

I switched over to a .50 pick and it's a little easier but I don't want to this to be a permanent solution. One mistake I'm making is picking in too deep on the strings on the upstroke.

I'm finding some the strumming patterns as there explained by Lisa to be a little confusing. What would be helpful is if the DUDU was included in the notes for each lesson.
