Hey guys-

Just a quick question... to preface this, lately I've been listening to a lot of pink floyd and David Gilmour is amazing. Anyways... I was talking to some guy about him and he was telling me how awesome his "phrasing" is. Now I've been playing guitar for about 3 years now and this term has never come up before. I was curious if anyone could help me with the meaning of this. Thanks.

If you try to play one of Gilmour's leads, you will quickly begin to understand phrasing.

The lead itself is simple, and the notes are the same pentatonic scale stuff you have seen before, but...it sounds much better. It is the way he changes tempo, plays off tempo, intersperses chords with single notes, waits, more notes, waits, coupla chords, long bend, coupla muted stacco notes, rock riff, legato riff, stacco riff, etc.

Try it, and you will see that he is the phrasing master.

Hope this helps.

Thanks man. I definately see what you mean, I just didn't understand what phrasing meant. Thanks though.
