Guitar Glossary: Resonator

Resonator

A metallic, conical, disc-shaped device attached to a guitar to amplify the sound. Many bluegrass and blues musicians prize the unique tone of resonators. The original intent of resonator guitars (to be louder than standard acoustics) has become obsolete becaue of amplification, but resonators still play a role because of their sound.
