Now we have the single note melody of the first section of "St. Louis Blues". Let's add some chord tones. I am getting these chords from the original song score. You can easily get them from the notes of the melody itself. It clearly implies an E minor scale and tonality. The notes directly imply chord progression of E minor (i) to B7 (V7), a half cadence; then B7 (V7) back to E minor (i), a full cadence to complete the phrase.
