In this lesson we're going to change everything up completely. The beat is more energetic, with a simple one-note bass line. This "groove vignette" is in F# minor, and we'll be using a bit of crunch/distortion on the guitar.

This phrase starts with a pentatonic lick that interacts with the bass and rhythm, played on the lower part of the neck then moving up to a quick riff. Then we move down and double the bass line, after which we leave quite a bit of space.

The last portion of the phrase is a quick "avoid note" chord. This is a F minor triad, and the notes don't fall into the F# minor key. However, it's all about where you want to go, what you want to express. This particular example takes things "out" a bit briefly, by playing the F minor chord over the consistent F# bass.
