In this lesson we play our i-iv-v minor chord progression using sweep picking along with a backing track at 80 BPM. So we are playing the A, D and E minor chord triads in four note sweep picking patterns in a i-iv-v progression.

We will move the A minor chord shape to different positions in order to play the D and E minor chords with the same shape and technique! Then we can play them all to form a complete i-iv-v progression of minor chords.

This is the pattern.

  • A minor (i) for 2 measures
  • D minor (iv) for 2 measures
  • A minor (i) for 2 measures
  • E minor (v) for 2 measures
  • Repeat!

Again, we want to try this slowly at first and get the technique right. This is because we are aiming at playing these chords precisely in time along with a backing track. After you get the mechanics of it right, then play along with the backing track!
