In this tutorial we're going to learn how to play "Word Up" as performed by Korn. Originally written by 80's funk band Cameo, this modern day cover features a funk style groove with 7 string guitars and some cool effects.

The tone for this song can be achieved by using a Dual Rectifier style distortion, with a dual humbucker guitar. I am using a 7 string to replicate Korn's sound as well as a 6 string. The song can be played on both, and you will also need a flange pedal, a wah, and some delay. The tuning of the 7 string guitar is standard tuning, with the low B string being tuned down to a low A. The tuning of the 6 string guitar is in dropped D. The song is in the key of F# minor, at 116 bpm, and in 4/4 time.

I'm going to break down this song section by section, letting you hear each part up to speed and slowed down. We have three main guitar parts playing throughout, and at the end we will have four guitars! In this tutorial, guitar 1 will be the 7 string, guitar 2 will be the clean guitar in the verse as well as the second guitar playing with distortion in the chorus and bridge, and guitar 3 will be the effected guitar. At the end, guitar 4 will be the guitar solo.
