First we're going to take a look at how to play the guitars heard in the intro of the song. There are two distinct guitar parts, both of which play motifs that are heard throughout the entire track. Both are playable on a 6 or 7 string guitar, and in this lesson I'm going to use the 6 string. Here are some key points to help you through the intro guitar parts:

1. The intro is four bars long, and enters after the produced start of the song.

2. Guitar 2 is playing with a compressed clean tone that focuses on playing on the upbeat. The chord voicings are inversions of F# minor, E, and D; chords we play throughout the entire song! This guitar part is played on the neck pickup.

2. Guitar 3 plays a three note melody with a distorted tone that is rich with reverb and flange. The melody plays A, G#, and F# through twice. This guitar part is played on the bridge pickup, with the flange being about halfway up to create the modulated sound.
