First we are going to take a look at the guitar parts that make up our first verse, which starts off at the top of the song. We will be using an acoustic guitar throughout, along with an electric that plays some simple rhythms. Here are some key points to help you through this section.

1. The chord progression is D-Bmi-Gmaj7-A and is played twice in the first verse. The first time through is played with just guitar and vocals, and than opens up the second time with the full band.

2. The rhythm played by the acoustic is an eighth note rhythm that swings with the rest of the band.

3. The electric enters half way through, opening up with power chords of each chord in the progression (D5, B5, G5, A5) These chords are played on the downbeat and "a" of 2 and 4.
