First we are going to take a look at the guitar parts you are going to hear in the verses of "Cat's in the Cradle". We will playing three chords using familiar open chord shapes with our capo on the first fret. Here are some key points to help you get started:

1. The chords we are playing as they relate to open strings are F (E), Ab (G), and Bb (A.)

2. You can play this section with a pick or finger picking; both will sound great with the song.

3. This section is played three times the same way, consisting of a four bar progression. The fourth time through, you play through the progression twice, ending each time with an extra 2 beats of F.

4. The fourth verse plays the rhythm slightly different, with the focus being on letting the chords ring out as opposed to strumming the entire time. This helps bring the dynamic down for this last verse.
