This is the pentatonic scale on steroids, so much so that it's "pent-atomic"! The legendary solo starts off with an ear-grabbing pick scrape, followed by classic Chuck Berry and some of Ed's own two-hand tapping and extreme bends, all at break-neck speed.

With this solo, the notes are important. But once you learn them it's really HOW you play the notes that make up Eddie's style. Eddie's dad was a jazz clarinet player and I think he gets a lot of his feel from that influence. Even though he plays at blazing-fast speeds, he is still able to bring a swing feel to many of his lead phrases. If you are able to slow down this solo, you could imagine a saxophone player playing the same phrases in a smokey night club.
