This song has a live and vibrant feel so it's important that you nail this feel. Keep your right hand light and flowing as you play the 8th notes.
There's really nothing to say about using only down strokes or only alternating, but in order to keep up with the groove and the feel it might be nice to change it up a bit and alternate.
Remember, you still need to be in the pocket. Even if you skip an 8th note when you're changing chords it's very important that you're still locked in with the rest of the band.
