To open up some sonic space for the vocals, the guitar part during the verses is much more understated. It's important to remember what the focus is and to be a good team player which means playing quietly when you are supporting someone else.

We begin by playing D major and A major with a short, choppy attack. This is sound is referred to as staccato articulation and can be a particularly effective way of taming the guitar down during verse sections.

There's a nice fill when there is a break in the vocals over the A chord. It's basically an open position Jimmy Reed riff and helps the guitar pop out when the vocals stop, and makes the song move along before we return back to our closed position D pattern.

When we hit the E chord, we'll play a variation on the lick we played during the intro over the E chord. It begins the same but resolves a bit differently when we arrive at the A.

We are then back at our D pattern before we move to G and take the chords down chromatically down to E and then hit a cool lick up around the 7th position. We then wrap up by playing our tight rhythm pattern in both D position and A position.
