Let's check out an alternate way to play the verse chord progression, as well as a more challenging strumming pattern in the chorus. You can use an E minor triad on the upper strings instead of going to the open E minor chord for one beat only. It gives a hipper sound and is much closer to the original recording. Also, the change to the G chord in the chorus occurs on the and-of-2 (anticipation), so you could adjust your strumming to play along closer to the backing track.
