The solo section follows the second chorus. I'm calling it a section because it uses every part of the song (songwriters take note). It starts with our intro riff, plays the verse and the chorus, repeats the vocal hook and the intro riff.

We get into the solo section via our signature progression or "riff" from the intro of the song. It's very important to remember that there is a 2 bar "vamp" on the D chord after the riff, before kicking into the first 8 bars of the solo. It's all played on a D Major chord, just like the verse structure. If you miss the vamp, then you'll be lost in this section! So, heads up!

Notice how the drummer directs traffic using fills to distinguish one section of the solo from another. Learn to listen to your bandmates! They are speaking to you in the language of rhythm and harmony.
