Description

Why do you want to learn how to make and play riffs? Because what you want to play will become etched favorably in the minds of all who hear you, that's why. It is a major step to take in your development.

A riff takes a chord progression and adds rhythm, single note lines, and/or different techniques to shape that progression into an integral part of the song. Think of what Chattahoochie would sound like if the only guitar you heard at the beginning of the song was the strumming of an open C chord. Wouldn't be the same, would it? That's how important the riff is.

Write a great riff and you've written a great song!
