Description

A riff is a pattern in music that is instantly recognizeable. A riff can be played using chords, scales or any combination of both. Great riffs you've heard are in "Chattahoochie" and "Achy Breaky Heart". The riff we explore in this lesson is in the style of Montgomery Gentry. Pay attention to the way the A string is muted with the finger playing the 3rd fret of the 6th string. Also, to give this riff a tight rhythm make sure you use upstrokes in the places I use them in the demonstration. They give this riff a real snap.
