Description

In this tutorial we will look at a way of visualizing major scale fretboard patterns and intervals on the guitar. We will use the E major scale on sets of two adjacent strings. We will visualize the E major scale in patterns that result in 3 notes per string on 2 adjacent strings. We will do this in three octaves (lower, middle and higher) that cover the entire range of the guitar. There will be a lot of backing track play along exercises to practice the ideas.

If we stretch the major scale out on one string we can cover an octave in a linear pattern. If we use the next adjacent string along with the first string we can play six note groupings of the scale. This winds up being a very efficient way of visualizing and playing the scale across the fretboard.

Here are more tutorials covering different aspects of visualizing, playing and using fretboard scale patterns.
