I am going to be getting a seven string in a couple of days. I was thinking of tuning it G-D-G-C-F-A-D. Has anyone else used this tuning or is it too low? Any response would help so I can know how I should tune it right away. Thanks.

Well Korn does A-D-G-C-F-A-D and I just wanted to do that in drop d style so I wouldn't have to do powerchords, which would be back to the G-D-G-C-F-A-D.

Of course you should try it when you get it, and if it's too low just go with standard in drop D. Or use both for different tones...I got all kinds of riffs that are tuning dependent (not that I even use a 7 string, but same principle).

I say you should because it's really not that different from a six string and you don't have to change the tuning all the time because you have those xtra 5 notes.

You would be surprised just how heavey standard tunning can be! It just takes a bit more skill than dropping all the strings untill they flap around like a flag in the wind.....j/k. A lot depends on the song though, and the tone you're going for.
