First and foremost DO NOT continue that thread here. All post's trying to do so will be deleted and repeated attempts will get you banned.

Now How many want the thread back?

How many will promise not to make the same mistakes?

This doesn't garauntee it's reopening but it might be a start.

I'm gonna say it's prolly not worth it. The intentions were good in the beginning...but then it just spiraled into the usual jargon on both sides. And wasn't it the religion and armageddon thread as well? Hehe, yeah but those got overshadowed real quick.

i'm anti-censorship and am more used to boards that just let things go in an anything goes kind of atmosphere so of course i appreciate such freedom. it's up to the mods since it's their board, of course...but if it makes any kind of sway, i'd like to see it reopened.

I didn't say Stackny was ignorant. I said his views are ignorant. Besides, "ignorant" isn't an insult. I'm ignorant on many things, so is everyone.

....i thought the point of such discussions of politics were to share opinions and, more importantly, facts and different sources of research so as to improve everyone's knowledge and eliminate ignorance.

but maybe that's just my opinion of what a discussion about politics should be about. i mean, afterall, politics isn't about opinions...it's about facts...the people who turn it to opinions are people who can't effectively defend their stance and are too proud to give it up when they face defeat in logic.

but hey, that's just my take on it....but i'm all about trying to improve myself and seek more and more knowledge and understanding.

Truth be known, I was just debating to debate. I really don't care if it comes back or not. I will apologize for my wrongful acts however. I won't deny my stepping out of the line, but I don't necessarily think anyone had gotten severe enough for an actual thread closing, but then again I'm not a mod, so I guess my thoughts don't really count that much in that respect. And given the way the thread started out, being a blatant open for a debate on politics and religion, it was practically inevitable that it'd turn out the way it did. So, y'know. There will be other threads.

Here's one straight from Schmange who also happens to be the guy that closed the thread.

#2) Saying outright that someone sucks or coming down on other members for their views... ie, trying to incite an argument or a flame attack is not allowed... period.

The point is I can believe beavers are robots piloted by small apes. No matter how stupid a view. You cannot by the rules call my view ignorant or retarded etc. etc. What you could do is say No I dissected one once and low and behold no small apes. Get the point.

See, "ignorant" is not coming down on the view, and to equate it with something like "retarded" is not fair at all. That's my point. If someone said they hated black people because all black people do is commit crime, I would call that view ignorant. If someone said the first steam engine was built in 1999, I'd say that was ignorant, but I wouldn't call them a retard or anything. It's not on the same level, it's not insulting, and to claim that it bears an insulting meaning is ignorant of the words place in the English language. See? It's not an aggressive, attacking word.
