This months jam track was contributed by Julian Vickers. It has a Jazz/Blues flair and is in the key of G minor. Im sure Julian can let us know a litte more about the track. Have fun guys!!!

hmm, I listened to the track and honestly, not a lot of ideas came to me for solos... this one could be more difficult, especially since jazz is one of the few styles of music I don't play really. we'll see what I come up with.

This one is a little more challenging than the last two but the whole point of this little operation is to get us exploring new things and to keep us learning. Posting up easy tracks every month isn't helping no one but will just be like a showoff stage which isn't my intentions.

oh I know, I wasn't trying to say that it was too hard for me or anything, I'm just saying I have no idea what I'm going to do yet.

Julian, are there a specific chord sequences or anything? I've got some different ideas for this one.
For life is quite absurd and death's the final word, You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

yep, it's all in Gminor.

Scales to play over the whole track:

Gminor Pentatonic
Gminor Blues
Gminor Dorian

You will have noticed that there is a sort of 'chorus' in the middle, which is still in G minor, but here are the chords for that:

Gminor/C7/Fmajor7//
Gminor/C7/Aminor/Dminor
repeat once.

I've posted up a quick sample solo on my purevolume so take a listen to that to get ideas, I'm using the Gminor Dorian and Pentatonic/blues for the whole song. I didn't do much in the chorus though...I'm sure you can go wild.

I love it. I think I'll take my time and actually write something for this one, rather than just improving.

sometimes it seems easiest to just sing a little solo over something like this and then use that as a guide...

anyways... awesome track, Julian. love the steel drums in it, great effect.

Awesome track! I shall record my take this Sunday.

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Sorry for the double post :o, but...

Mark that was cool! You reminded me pleasantly of Robbie Krieger... in fact, Julian, the whole thing reminded me a little of "Light My Fire". Anyhow, good job, mate.

Alucard, yours was interesting too - you actually have a nice, bubbly jazz lead style. The tremolo'ed chord near the beginning was cool, too.

Well done, fellas. :)

My guitar is an Epiphone Dot Deluxe, you can see me playing it in that 21st thread in open discussion. The pickups are just the standard humbuckers that come with it....not sure really :o

Good luck with the track guys! I won't be posting an 'entry', cause in a week I'll be heading up to work at a skifield for a few months, so no recording for me!

Oh yeah I guess one of the tricks to a track like this is to practice playing it slow at first, til you find some notes that you like, then elaborate on them. Good tracks so far guys!

got a take done. I guess it's what I would call a jazz-blues fusion. since I'm way better at blues than jazz I decided to do it that way! :p it's way different from the type of stuff I normally do. it was a learning experience alright though! tons of fun too!

Good BT though.

So learn!!!! That's why I made this whole thing. I want people to learn the things they don't know and Julians' track gives us who aren't proficient at Jazz to learn something new.
