I've got a Peavy Mantis that I've finally decided to learn properly after way too many years to mention. I've put on new strings and have tuned it up using an electronic tuner. Actually, two different electronic tuners say that all the strings are in tune. But, when I hit the low E string at the 5th fret - that should give me the A of the A string, right? It comes out WAY sharp and both tuners tell me it is very sharp. Any ideas? All the other 5th (or 4th) fret tuning steps seem to work fine.

It could be a coupla different things. Or a combination of both. You could be fretting the string too hard and stretching the sting out of tune, or you guitar intonation is way out of whack. Search the forum to read about setting the intonation. If you have no experience, you should probably take it into a guitar shop for a setup.

It's the intonation more than likely. I suggest taking it to a tech as well... It must be waaaaay out of whack if you're seeing a difference at the 5th fret.

Like it's been said already, take it into a tech and have them setup the guitar. They'll probably change the strings for you, adjust the intonation, adjust the action, and adjust the trem for you... They'll probably do that all for 25-30 dollars or so. That's the normal price.
