I'm one who believes you should always move up...not down when buying equipment. My first guitar was a Peavey Tele for around $240.....my second and current guitar is a Fender Fat Strat with a FR that goes for around $500, so I'm kind of looking around now for my third guitar, something with a different sound, and I play mostly Blues.....I'm looking at the Gibson SL humbucker special. I have never played a Gibson, let alone this model, but people have told me this is a perfect guitar for Blues. If anyone's played this guitar, let me know what you think of it.

The SL is a discontinued model by Gibson, which always raises a red flag for me. They didn't sell for some reason. Most players that prefer what Gibson delivers, aren't interested in lower quality to make it more affordable. Gibson has struggled with this for decades. I play a Les Paul Standard and wouldn't consider anything less. Sure, the price tag is serious digits, but so is the guitar. You know that your handling a serious instrument when it delivers exactly what you expect from it.
I'm sure the SL is descent, but I wouldn't buy it. Save for a LP and you'll find what you're looking for.
