so i am very confused, ive looked around the web and through a bunch of books, and they all seem to have a different idea of what a m7 (minor 7) chord is.

is the formula 1 flat3 5 7?

or is it, 1 flat3 5 flat7??

I did a tutorial on minor 7th chords and how they contrast with major 7ths and dominant 7ths also:

The formula for minor 7ths chords is:

1st - minor 3rd - 5th - minor 7th

indeed. the 1-m3-5-7 scale-degree'age would be a "minor/major 7" that sometimes goes by different pet names but yea it's a bit of a mouthful.

a 1st; minor 3rd; 5th; and minor 7th is a minor 7th chord.

There is no doubt about this.

The chord with a 1st; minor 3rd; 5th; and 7th.... I believe with almost 100% certainty that it's called a Minor Major Seventh Chord.
