Remember to always practice everything using different ways of picking - palm muting, picking close to the bridge, picking close to the neck etc.
Also, it's always good to practice techniques like this one with something that keeps time, like a drum machine or a metronome.
You don't always want to play at one exact tempo, but it's good to be able to!
