This tutorial is a brief introduction to and overview of the main concepts in music theory. Music Theory is the set of concepts that describes the nature of musical events. It is the process of mentally identifying the sounds that occur in music. We do this in order to build a consistent set of ideas to describe what happens in music.
We will discuss the following topics.

5. Chord Progressions
6. Chord Functions (Roman Numeral Analysis)
7. Voice Leading
8. Rhythm
9. Melody
Each topic will be discussed only briefly. Each topic is dealt with in depth in another, separate tutorial. For the purpose of this tutorial, this is only a brief overview of these topics, where, how and why they fit into music theory.
